nicepasses:

So, I’ve been thinking about my life a lot recently. It’s a human dumpster fire. For that reason, I think the best course of action for me would be to take a long break from this site and work to make things easier for myself, and build support systems that aren’t notes on hockey comic headcanons.

I’m going to make a WordPress archive of my text posts, if you’re into that, and the link’ll be posted here 24 hours before I delete both my main and this sideblog on Sunday.

I want to emphasize that deleting my blog was a thought that I’ve had for a long time, and not prompted by any recent events in this fandom, or by something someone said about me.

My twitter is @wonder_dummied, and it’s a protected account, so please only follow me if we’re mutuals. I’ll probably change my username there after Sunday. Also, you won’t be hearing from me from any social media account for the rest of this week.

Adios.

the post about ransom being a bio prof was probably mine

ETA:

*ahem* also, i think dex would be the type of person who’s partial to Nerdy Sports Analysis a la fivethirtyeight, which does not have very many (any?) hockey writers right now, or a model for predicting outcomes in hockey games, hmm….

and then, regarding chowder–him being a cs major is mostly fanon that developed from tweets about him being better at an intro class than dex, but tbh because he’s from the bay area and went to a private school, it’s likely that he took AP Java, had a really good teacher, and joined FIRST Robotics while dex, the public school kid from maine, wasn’t able to do any of those things.

but chowder reminds me a lot of one of my dear friends, who is a physics major (with an astro concentration)/cs minor, really nice and genial and from the bay area, whose dream career is to work for NASA. so. let chowder go to space.

finally, the radio bitty head canon by @stultiloquentia is one of my favorites.

Discourse Callout Post: Freshman Ford/Lardo

porcupine-girl:

des-zimbits:

samwellgotyourback:

I love you guys, I love this fandom, but I have some nits to pick, some grievances to air, and some words to yell.

I dated my first boyfriend when I was 18 and he was 22. That relationship didn’t work but for a whole host of reasons that aren’t Weird Problematic Age-Gap. I dated my second boyfriend a few months later, again at ages 18 and 22, and that lasted a good six years or so and we were pretty happy.

Freshman/Senior has issues to overcome but is not Problematic. And yet I see people doing like… CALLOUTS? PSAs? about how you should Not Ship Ford and Lardo in this dynamic. You know what’s got just as many issues as that? Dating someone you used to actively hate (Dex/Nursey) or someone who used to bully you (Zimbits which we are literally all here for).

This fandom is a desert of femslash, and femslash shippers have been wandering for forty years trying to find their promised land, and they have finally found an oasis. Let them ship, let them figure out their mistakes, let them navigate the oceans, and spare them from hypercriticism – and spare my personal romantic history from your weird discourse.

And hey, maybe Lardo skipped a grade or Ford took a year off before university.

I mean, at least Lardo/Ford is way more equal in this sense than Lardo/George, which is what OMGCP femslashers used to make do with.

Jack and Bitty… are five years apart… This is spring so Ford is literally only a year younger (at most, she might have turned 19 in September for all we know) than Bitty was when they started dating. How can you be okay with zimbits and not okay with this?

This is as bad as the people who claim that Jack and Bitty staying together for life is “unrealistic” and “problematic” either because Bitty was so young (like 20 isn’t an adult) when they got together or because Jack was Bitty’s first boyfriend. Only, at least those things are maybe a little bit rarer than a college freshman dating a college senior which let me tell you happens all the time.

Like, when I was in college it was considered a little creepy for upperclassmen to start hitting on the freshmen the moment they got to campus, because like they’re new and just made a major life change and don’t know what’s going on and all. But spring semester freshmen? They’re adults, they’re well-established in their college lives, they can date whoever they want.
